Summer Nails Through the Years: 2022

We’re back with the final post in our “through the years” series of summer nail art! If you missed last week’s post, we looked at some of my favorite manis from the summer of 2021, and this week we’re moving on to 2022!

Since this year, in 2023, we’re celebrating over SIX YEARS of threesixtynails, I wanted to go back in time and share a few of my favorite summer nail designs from each of those six years. So, even though some of the photo quality may not be the greatest from years past (yikes, sorry, haha), I hope that these posts will give you some mani inspiration for our current summer season. And, if you’ve been around here for a long time, maybe it’ll even be a trip down memory lane for you. :)

I took a break from content and nail art throughout the entirety of this past summer, but I still found a few cute designs to share, so let’s get into it!

1. Adorable Floral Nails

From May 2nd, 2022

Bloom into the season with this cute pattern!

Once again, this is a floral pattern design that I absolutely ADORE. I really like these colors together and much like the design I shared last week, this swirl technique is very easy to do. And adding a little glitter is always fun too!

2. “Fun in the Sun” Mani

From June 1st, 2022

Grab your favorite summer color and you’ve got a season-ready mani!

I happen to be a fan of bright colors all year round, but whatever color you vibe with during the warmer months, that can make for a very pretty summer mani all on its own. This set of fuchsia nails from last year was such a lovely one to wear!

3. “Match Your Outfit” Nail Art

From July 21st, 2022

A super quick accent nail for when you want to add some fun to a plain set of nails.

I matched this mani to an outfit of mine last summer and I really like its simple look! These were meant to be very minimal flowers, but I think they could also be butterflies or clouds or something. Next time you’re stuck for a nail art idea, try matching it to your outfit and see what happens!

4. Natural Nails (+ a reminder)

From June 28th, 2022

Natural nails are always in style.

I wanted to cap this series with a gentle reminder. Something that has been so important to my “less-toxic” journey lately has been the concept of balance. There was a time in my life where I was painting my nails almost every day, sometimes multiple times a day if I had the time. And that was a lot of fun! But these days, as I slowly work to implement small, positive changes in my day-to-day, doing my nails less often has been a really nice shift.

This photo was taken last summer after I’d had bare nails for a while. In fact, I didn’t wear a single mani for three months back then! (Shocking, I know, haha.) But it was a nice break. And these days, I still like to take some time between manicures. Having bare nails is really helpful for lots of other hobbies I enjoy, like baking and crocheting, things that I either don’t want to have chipped nails going into or of which I get chipped nails as a result.

So I just wanted to encourage you, even with all of these fun nail art ideas and prompts, natural nails are always in style and the nails God gave you are lovely in their own right. So, whenever you feel like taking a break from nail art and polish and rigid nail care routines and all of those things, go ahead and take a break. Your nails can take care of themselves if you only give them a chance. So don’t be afraid to go natural this summer. :)

P.S. If you’re worried about letting your nails fend for themselves without external reinforcement, make sure to do your own research on how you can help them be their healthiest. Sometimes various ingredients in things like hand soap, lotions, personal care items, and food just may not be agreeing with your nails, so take some time to assess the things that you use on a daily basis that may be affecting them. And if you’re worried about breakage while they’re bare, try keeping them short for a while! I really enjoyed sharing more of these throwback manis with you! Even though I was taking more of a break from nail art last summer, it’s nice to revisit on the manicures I did create.
